COMUNICATO STAMPA GRUPPO PIAGGIO E INTESA SANPAOLO, SOTTOSCRITTO ACCORDO PER LO SVILUPPO DEL GRUPPO PIAGGIO IN INDIA Piano di investimenti da circa 65 milioni di euro per la realizzazione di uno stabilimento a Pune, nello stato del Maharashtra Mumbai (India), 14 febbraio 2007 – Il Gruppo Piaggio e Intesa Sanpaolo hanno sottoscritto una Lettera di Intenti relativa alla strutturazione delle forme di finanziamento più opportune finalizzate allo sviluppo di un nuovo progetto industriale di Piaggio in India, avente come obiettivo la costruzione di uno stabilimento per la produzione di una gamma di motori Diesel. La Lettera di Intenti è stata firmata oggi a Mumbai da Roberto Colaninno, Presidente e Amministratore Delegato del Gruppo Piaggio, e, per Intesa Sanpaolo, da Corrado Passera, Consigliere Delegato e CEO, e Gaetano Miccichè, Direttore della Divisione Corporate & Investment Banking. La nuova iniziativa industriale di Piaggio in India consentirà, oltre che di rafforzare i rapporti con gli attuali fornitori, di dotare i Veicoli per Trasporto Leggero (VTL) del Gruppo di motorizzazioni tecnologicamente avanzate, economicamente competitive e in grado di garantire il futuro sviluppo del business, in particolare per le motorizzazioni Diesel. L’investimento complessivo, da realizzarsi nell’arco del prossimo triennio, è nell’ordine di circa Euro 60-65 milioni. Il Progetto prevede: la progettazione, lo sviluppo e la prototipazione di nuovi motori Diesel 1.000-1.200cc due cilindri a iniezione diretta, in diverse configurazioni, nonché 500cc monocilindrico a iniezione diretta; la costruzione di un nuovo stabilimento, con capacità produttiva fino a 200.000 motori all’anno, da realizzarsi in India nella zona di Pune (Stato del Maharashtra), così da assicurare una prossimità logistica rispetto a Baramati ove si trova l’unità produttiva della controllata Piaggio Vehicles Private Limited. L’avvio della nuova unità produttiva in India è previsto nell’arco di 3-4 anni (fine 2009 - inizio 2010). Il Gruppo Piaggio è attualmente presente in India con la società Piaggio Vehicles Private Ltd. (PVPL), controllata al 100%, operante nel campo dei veicoli a 3 e 4 ruote per il trasporto leggero di persone e merci. Con vendite 2006 pari a circa 139.000 veicoli, PVPL ha raggiunto la posizione di secondo player nel settore dei veicoli a 3 ruote in India (con una quota di mercato del 34% circa), e di leader nel segmento “Cargo” per il trasporto delle merci sino a 0,75 ton. Roberto Colaninno, Presidente e Amministratore Delegato di Piaggio, ha dichiarato: “Il nostro Gruppo ha trovato in Intesa Sanpaolo un partner finanziario che ha espresso grande fiducia nel management e nelle sue strategie, concedendo un sostegno finanziario che è risultato determinante nel percorso di rilancio di Piaggio e, successivamente, di Aprilia e Moto Guzzi. Intesa Sanpaolo è oggi ancora al nostro fianco in questa nuova fase di sviluppo, che realizza le strategie internazionali di Piaggio.
