dechkotzar Posted January 2, 2025 Posted January 2, 2025 Hi Guys, sorry for writing in english, I speak, read and understand Dutch never the less written part is terrible. Pls answer in Dutch. I have vespa 50 Special and I have decided to upgrade it to better onsteking and to 12v. I thought I wil go for easy way and ordered a conversion kit from SIP SIP UPGRADE KIT with a hope that it will arrive with tep by step instructions. Unfortunately tha is not the case. I got the package with flywheel, cdi, voltage regulator, stator plate...next to that I have ordered 12v front light bulb and 12 rear light bulb... I have tried to find instructions but no luck. Does anybody have any link, video, instruction how to rewire and what needs to be rewired? Thank you in advance! once more sorry for English... Dusan from Haarlem.

Frederik9111 Posted January 2, 2025 Posted January 2, 2025 Adapting the Special wiring loom (with all functions working correctly) is not as straight forward as older small & large frame Vespa's. This is mainly due to the plastic molded-in switch box in the handlebar. In addition, the V5B3T has quite a lot of different wiring harnesses depending on the presence of blinkers, ignition switch, horn, etc.. The easiest solution for your problem is replacing the original loom by a specific 12V conversion wiring harness for Vespa Special. It comes with the correct switch box, and pre-prepared wiring for a rear brake light, a bilux headlight, and (if usefull) blinker contacts.
dechkotzar Posted January 2, 2025 Author Posted January 2, 2025 Thank you lads! This special doesn’t have anything except rear light, front light and horn. There are no indicators, break light…I hoped to got fora easy fix and I am just going further and further… This is what I have…
Frederik9111 Posted January 4, 2025 Posted January 4, 2025 (edited) A new loom, an extra brake switch, a double festoon fitting for the tail light and a bilux headlight are worth the investment. ☝😳 Edited January 4, 2025 by Frederik9111 1
dechkotzar Posted January 27, 2025 Author Posted January 27, 2025 I am not sure if I should star a new topic..or..anyway..I have decided to give it a try and go with a original parts on one vespa! In General, I have bougth this vespa as is and it was riding, more than good...at one moment, it just started running on low rpm's. I am new in this world and I don't have anybody close to Haarlem to help so I thought Lets give it a go... First advice was to swap condensor. I have swapped it, but that did not make any difference. Second step was to replace internal coil, and which I did. Once I have removed te complete thing I have realized that wires are really rotten..So I have replaced the coil and all the wires. And that all looks nice. I have put it back, but I have the idea that there is a little drag of flywheel on the new coil. So far I can measure, coil has the same measurements. The only difference which I could notice is that holes for bolts are tighter. After installing it, turning it few times and removing the fly wheel I could notice a scratched line, nothing dramatic. any advice? https://www.sip-scootershop.com/nl/product/bobine-sip-binnen-98360-111820-voor-vespa-50-n-l-r-1-special-v5a2-v5b1-1_85028100 Is there a video, photos, eplanation on how to install these complete plate, how to adjust contact points? I have the video about the timings...but the rest I am not really finding it! Thank you! BTW if you know a skilled enthusiast close to Haarlem who has time to help, pls let me know!
Basie Posted January 27, 2025 Posted January 27, 2025 Hi Dusan, This is a very useful link for setting your points and ignition. It helped me a lot when working on the ignition. https://scooterhelp.com/tips/timing/points.timing.over.html -GrtZ- Basie 1
Sjoerdo Posted January 28, 2025 Posted January 28, 2025 There should be nothing touching the inside of the flywheel, check what is rubbing and see if you can fix that. Then you can move on to the link that Basie sent you great instructions on how to set your timing. 1
